MUSIC AT FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY

this series presents the prize winners of the biennial New York International Piano Competition.

 

Michael Davidman, Pianist, is a Prize Winner of the Ninth, 2018 New York International Piano competition, a biennial event presented under the auspices of the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation.

A native of New York City, Michael began piano lessons at the age of five with Michiyo Morikawa. He continued his studies with Efrem Briskin at the Manhattan School of Music. He completed his Bachelor’s degree with Robert McDonald at The Curtis Institute of Music and in the fall of 2019, Michael began his Master of Music degree studies at The Juilliard School under the guidance of Jerome Lowenthal and Stephen Hough. In addition he has studied conducting with Jonathan Strasser and David Gilbert.

Michael has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra, Ithaca College Orchestra, Manhattan School of Music Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New York Chamber Orchestra. His awards include Grand Prize LISMA Foundation 9th International Music Competition, First Prizes in both Solo and Concerto in the Ithaca College of Music Piano Competition, and the Grand Prize at the 2009 Wagner College Young Musician’s Competition.

Michael completed the fourth and final year of the Chopin Foundation of the United States Scholarship Program, and his performances have been featured on WHYY “On Stage at Curtis,” WWFM The Classical Network, “Curtis Calls”, NPR’s “From the Top” radio program, McGraw-Hill Financial Young Artist Showcase (The Robert Sherman Show) WQXR, and was the youngest selected by audition at age thirteen to perform in the 2010 Lang Lang Master Class at the Manhattan School of Music.

Michael graduated from Hunter College High School in New York City, 2015 and performs in retirement homes, outreach programs, attends the opera regularly and enjoys accompanying opera singers.
