this series presents the prize winners of the biennial New York International Piano Competition.


Yilun Xu, Pianist, born in Beijing, China is a Prize Winner of the 2018 Ninth New York International Piano Competition, a biennial event presented under the auspices of the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation. In addition to her cash award she will be appearing in concert on the Foundation’s Young Artist Series provided throughout the year.

Yilun has garnered prizes in numerous competitions in China as well as prestigious International Competitions including; Second Prize in both the “Xing Hai” Cup Youth Piano Competition and “Cadenza” Cup Young Pianists; the Silver Prize at the 5th National Youth Piano Invitation Tournament for the Beethoven Festival in Germany; and 1st Place and the Judges’ Distinction Award in the American Protégé International Music Talent Competition.

Yilun Xu has attended many celebrated music festivals including the “BIMFA On the Road” International Music Festival and Academy in Shanghai Conservatory of Music; University of Florida International Piano Festival; Italy Amalfi Coast Music 7th Arts Festival; Gijon International Piano Festival, and Aspen Music Festival.

Yilun was accepted into elementary school affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, followed by the Middle School Division. She then moved to the USA in 2012 to continue her studies at The Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, and later the Bachelor of Music Program with Choong-Mo Kang and Yoheved Kaplinsky.
