The production is both simple and powerful, cohesive, carnal. It highlights the fundamental narrative of homophobia and love, desire and violence, truth and lies…

Michel Marc Bouchard, one of the most important voices in Quebec theatre, brings his latest masterpiece to the Quick with Tom na Fazenda (Tom At the Farm). The play has already garnered widespread public and critical acclaim and has amassed major industry awards in Brazil.

The Montreal Theater Hub described the production as, “Thoroughly resonant with its themes of oppression, discrimination, and acceptance. Bouchard’s thunderous work once again proves a timely, necessary piece on a silent epidemic that transcends borders.”

The story follows Tom, who makes his way to a rural community in Brazil for the funeral of his lover. There he discovers that the mother knows nothing about him or about her dead son’s love life, and that a brother knows everything but suppresses the truth with astounding violence. On the farm, lying is the foremost condition for survival.

The stirring production comes at a time when Brazil holds the highest LGBTQ+ murder rate in the world.
