Instructor: Orin Grossman
Explore the fascinating lives and music of four American music legends, and the ways in which these musicians changed the landscape of music in the United States. The course will trace the life and influences of each songwriter, highlighting seminal events and major accomplishments. Each class will feature full piano performances of selections by these brilliant musicians. The final class will sum up your journey and feature a preview of an upcoming concert featuring Orin’s musical family – his brother Jerry Grossman, principal cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and his wife, soprano Korliss Uecker, who will perform a number of selections from American sources. The class will have an opportunity to preview the music and talk to the musicians with special backstage ‘meet and greet.’
DR. ORIN GROSSMAN has been delighting audiences with his unique approach to performing and explaining American and European music. As a performer, he is an in-demand interpreter of the music of George Gershwin, playing his songs and classical compositions around the world. He performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and gave the Russian premiere of Gershwin’s Second Rhapsody with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic to a standing ovation. As a star professor for ‘One Day University’ he has a unique talent for educating and entertaining with a disarming wit and easily comprehended intelligence.
