This concert includes selections from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts, as part of the continued celebration of the centennial of his birth. In the concert’s second half, the Glee Club will offer a musical tribute to their longtime accompanist, Beth Palmer, who will retire this year.
Michael A. Ciavaglia ’04, D.M.A., conductor
Bio: Dr. Ciavaglia is active in the fields of opera, choral performance, and higher education. In addition to his role at Fairfield, he has been a part of the music staffs of On Site Opera in New York City, Asheville Lyric Opera, Cincinnati Opera, and the New York Choral Society. Dr. Ciavaglia has regularly prepared choruses for the Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala and performances with superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli. He also serves as the artistic director of the Connecticut Chamber Choir, and has taught and conducted at Mars Hill University and at Northern Kentucky University. Currently, he is the director of choral music at Fairfield University, and is the director of the Fairfield University Glee Club and Chamber Singers.
