In this season of worldwide pain, Limón’s work is balm and anchor. Limón’s work is heroic; the legacy of his movement and musicality continues to honor him.

Founded in 1946 by José Limón and Doris Humphrey, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American modern dance since its inception. Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery, and expansive yet nuanced movement, the company illustrates the timelessness of José Limón’s work and vision.
The Limón Dance Company is celebrating 80 years of history while boldly visioning a transformative future. Their Quick Center program will include a reinterpretation of Limon’s Mazurkas under the direction of artistic director Dante Puleio, and a new work from choreographer Akram Khan inspired by Limon’s critically acclaimed The Moor’s Pavane. Based on Shakespeare’s Othello, The Moor’s Pavane is a picture of the corrosive force of jealousy and the destruction of good by evil.
Mexican-born Limón was a pioneering force of the 20th century, establishing the first modern dance repertory company in the United States. His choreography holds a special place in American culture for its social awareness, exploring the common threads that connect us across communities.
The dance of Limón is for always … a spectacle of the highest artistic level … still the most unique and original American dance company.

[Akram Khan’s] choreography is flawless, gutsy and a joy to behold.
