I was completely won over, not only by their individual technical and aesthetic capabilities but also by the seamless, joyful way they blended these discrete percussive dance styles and energies.

—Eva Yaa Asantewaa, quoted in Dance Magazine

Soles of Duende is a multicultural, all-female trio based in the rhythms of tap, flamenco, and Kathak dance. The trio is comprised of a Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican from New Haven, a Mexican Puerto Rican Jew from the Lower East Side, and a Bengali Indian from New Jersey.

Their new work is called The Kitchen, an evening-length performance featuring Brinda Guha (Kathak), Amanda Castro (tap), and Arielle Rosales (flamenco), with live music composed and performed by Okai Musik, AJ Jagannath, and Ryan Stanbury.

The Kitchen unfolds through rhythm, ritual, and shared listening. Rooted in percussive movement traditions and live music, the piece explores how joy and friction coexist within acts of gathering around the table, imagining the intimacy of shared meals, and the intergenerational connections of family. The work reflects on how families come together despite tension, drawing inspiration from generations of titis and mashis who created nourishment through food and care.

Through the rhythmic languages of tap, flamenco, and Kathak, The Kitchen becomes both a feast and a meditation.
